Terri and I went to Sulphur, OK to the Chickasaw Recreation Area (Platte National Park) and spent a couple of hours hiking the springs trail. At the very east end of the trail we ran into a couple of hogs and eight piglets. Beautiful day.
We ate lunch at Los Generales Mexican Restaurant in Davis.... It was too beautiful to do house or yard work today. I loaded up and headed to Lawton to the Wichita Wildlife Refuge this morning. I hiked 5.60 miles in two hours and seven minutes. Not bad for an old man. That is the most miles I have put on my ankle since my surgery last December. No pain, blisters or issues with my feet or my ankle.
I have promised myself that I will post more photos of myself, so below is number one.... It was a great day for a hike but there was absolutely no wildlife out today??? It is time to get back to Hiking!
My ankle surgery was successful, even though the recovery was slow and painful... I am going to start working toward a West bound 223 mile thru-hike of the Ouachita Trail. Today was the first day of preparation. Even though it has been hot, I went to Lake Murray this morning and hiked 5-miles on trail in two hours. Not much but a start. I am hoping to do the trail in October of this year....
Took a short hike at Mesa Verde National Park on the Petroglyph Trail (2.4 miles) Do to the terrain it seemed a lot longer. It was well worth the effort to "see the writing on the wall".
My ankle surgery is scheduled for December 5th. Hopefully after I heal from that my hiking log will become very active... I took advantage of a beautiful day and took a trip to Lake Murray State Park south of Ardmore, Oklahoma. (A short 200 mile round trip drive) According to Fitbit I walked 17,552 steps - 8.74 miles - climbed the equivalent to 99 floors and burned 4,243 calories in two and a half hours of walking the Buckhorn and Big Loop Trails.
I also did a little Geocaching while I was on the trail and dropped off a Geocoin that I picked up on Christmas Vacation in Missouri. AM Temp: 44 (Wind Chill: 42) PM Temp: 77 In celebration of my retirement, I got up this morning and went to Roman Nose State Park just north of Watonga for a brisk morning hike. According to Fitbit I walked 21,145 steps - 10.53 miles - climbed the equivalent to 111 floors and burned 4,584 calories in three hours of walking the Inspiration Overlook and Switchback Trails.
AM Temp: 24 (Wind Chill: 18) PM Temp: 55 Went back to Lawton today. Walked the same trail. It's the closest trail to my house even though it is 40-miles away. Didn't see anyone else. A little cold weather and everyone stays home..... I did get to see a couple of Bison, a white tail deer and several big wild Tom Turkeys. It's amazing what you see when you get out on a cold drab day.... According to Fitbit I walked 17,083 steps - 8.5 miles - climbed the equivalent to 88 floors and burned 4,638 calories
All in 2-hours on the nose..... AM Temp: 16 (Wind Chill: 2) PM Temp: 24 To cold to work in the yard today so I went hiking again! Hiked the same trail at Lawton's Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge today. Lonely trail today!
A lot colder today! Part of the area that the Buffalo Trail goes through looks like a moonscape due to a wildland fire that has burned the area sometime in the last coupe of years. According to Fitbit the hike was 17,313 steps - 8.62 miles - climbed the equivalent to 115 floors - 4,675 calories Not a bad start to the New Year.... AM Temp: 29 (Wind Chill: 17) PM Temp: 53 It is time to start enjoying my retirement - Today was so beautiful that I couldn't resist heading to Lawton and break-in new shoes on the 8-mile Buffalo Trail. According to Fitbit the hike was 17,283 steps - 8.5 miles - climbed the equivalent to 83 floors - 4,156 calories
Not a bad start to the New Year.... AM Temp: 46 (Wind Chill: 41) PM Temp: 63 |
