I have seen several post about the aluminum grate on the Coleman Stove/Grill melting. I have never had an issue with this until I purchased a Coleman Oven. I heated it on the Coleman Grill and the aluminum grate melted.. It was my fault. I had a welding blanket over the oven to see how hot I could get the oven. (500+ degrees).... So, I looked online to see what options that I had and I saw nothing except a replacement Aluminum grate. I then thought about an old steel catwalk that I had at the farm that might work . I went to the farm and cut, ground, sanded, sandblasted and painted (2,000 degree heat resistant spray paint) a steel grate for the stove.... It works GREAT.... Better than before and it is bulletproof.... Note: After I cut the welding blanket to fit the Coleman Oven, Terri sewed the two back corners using Nomex Thread. A couple of magnets will keep the sides in place and I may add a couple to keep the cover over the door, however, test shows this may not be an issue as the stove heats up quickly. Camp On......... Opinion: I have a new Coleman two burner stove that Coleman says the oven will work on, however the oven is not completely stable on the two burner stove and the burner does not line up with the center of the oven. The Coleman Grill/Stove is the way to go IF you replace the aluminum grate with a steel one. The grill makes the oven very stable and the grill burner heats the entire bottom of the oven.

I spent the snow apocalypse installing a new wench on my truck. I hit a deer back in November on my way to the cabin at McAlester and it did some minor damage to my grill. The wench bumper replaced the section of grill that was damaged so this project was a two for...
I have missed my wench since I sold my Jeep so this has been a project that I have been looking forward too for a while. It wasn't to difficult but as with most projects the manufactures instructions were not great... I do not have commercial electricity connected to the shop at the farm. OEC wants $1,000 to set the pole so I have used a generator to power the shop. The generator I have will run off of gasoline or propane. Up until now I ran it off of gasoline but I have had a 250 gallon propane tank sitting in the pasture is I have I stalled the tank and buried the line to the shop and generator location. This will give me fuel for both the generator and heat for the shop.
I removed the old back yard gate and fence during the sidewalk project. Over the last few weeks I designed, fabricated and finished installation today. Handle is an exterior door lock set.
One more retirement project completed! 2020 continues it's memory creating march through time... Ice is the first sign that Fall has arrived at my home...
Terri has been working hard on her cookies. I recently built her a stand to hold her projector for helping her decorate her cookies. My payment taste and looks very good....
After all the concrete work that I did was finished it came time for a new landscaping look for the old place. That work was completed today, just in time for a rain shower. Before After During Still need to redo the sprinkler system and add some landscape lighting.
Since my 16 foot utility trailer was stolen several years ago it has been a challenge to haul long material. My 8 foot utility trailer is useful but is no better at hauling long material than my truck is.
With the construction on my new barn I needed a way to haul some long sheets of metal siding. This spawned the need for the carrier extension. This will support and stabilize my loads. It is adjustable and comes apart so it can be carried in the back of the truck when not needed. All for about $30.00.... Next project is the repair of a couple of cracks in the front sidewalk. I have the two places cutout and the concrete removed. A landscape lighting conduit has been added to the repair closest to the door and rebar has been added. Concrete is next but an R&R day and the need to mow mine and Terri's yard has delayed the concrete pour....
Started the concrete work on replacing the border around the mailbox planter. Old pavers removed and dirt work started last week. I finished the first section of forms and poured it this morning.... Work to continue this week. Will finish before starting on farm building. Completed building the forms and pouring the concrete for the curb on the west and south side of the mailbox planter area today - July 1, 2020... Phase III (Final) construction will take place over the weekend... Project is complete...

AuthorSteve Chapman (68 yoa) Welcome to my Retirement Journal. A little about myself: I was married to my high school sweetheart for almost 29 years. I have been a widower since 2008.
I worked for the City of Chickasha for over 38 years and held a variety of jobs for them during that time. I retired as the Parks and Recreation Director on January 6, 2017. Now that I have retired I will be working on the many projects that I have been putting off. I will also be deciding where I will live in retirement. I am not sure I want to stay in Chickasha. I do plan on traveling and doing a lot of hiking, kayaking, backpacking, camping, hunting, fishing and other outdoor activities as well as volunteer work during my retirement... New Hiking Buddy!
